review 1: I am not much for heist novels. They seem to trend into a mix of unnecessary convolutions and excessive machoism. That said, I am glad I tried this one out. The plot is interesting and believable enough (although the ending did leave a few key questions hanging out there). The main character, Carr, is well-wrought and while capable, certainly fallible, which adds to the appeal of him and the story. Despite some of the more shallow characters alongside Carr (and the ending) I can honestly say I enjoyed following Carr and his crew through their exploits in the US and then down to Grand Cayman. It was certainly more nuanced than I expected. Not high literature for sure, but worth taking off the shelf if you are into the genre. Probably somewhere like 3.5 stars but since that ... moreisn't an option I am rounding down :)
review 2: Carr is ex the boss of a sting operation. He is mascarading as a diamond seller. As an ex CIA man, he has lots of experience in espionage and things not being what they seem. But he misses many of the clues about what is going on. That is the part that makes this a three star book for me instead of a four star book. The character is not quite believable enough. He should not have missed so much. But the characters in the book are generally engaging, travel all around the world and the action goes a mile a minute. Lots of betrayal, might have almost been a better title for the book. less

I really enjoyed this. This was a good tense thriller with a collection of good characters.
