review 1: If you've seen the movie Hairspray there's the line of "You're joinin' this program already in progress!" And for me this truly was the case, this was the first of the books I'd read, and I'm totally unfamiliar with graphic novels. That said, I was a little confused with things at first, like what are "Sparks" and "Constructs" and "Clanks" and "the Other" but if you read it long enough you definitely figure it out.I totally enjoyed this book. The world building was really different then any other steam-punk style books that I'd read before, and I loved how much whimsy was incorporated, both mechanically, and creatures. I even have to forgive one of my peeves, which is I hate reading accents, because I can't just read a long as fast, I have to sound everything out, and it... more kills my vibe. But for the hilarious Jäger (something?) I will make an exception. They were awesome.I felt the book may have been more accurately titled as "Agatha H and the Traveling Circus" but a Clockwork Princess did finally appear nearing the end. And that part of the story had a strange plot to me, there was a lot of "the Other" which seemed way more fantasy, not quite in keeping with the steam-punk theme of it all. But maybe it was, as I said I kind of landed in this series in the middle. So far I think it's my favorite steam-punk style novel that I've read so far. I liked that Agatha was a strong female character (though she did get put into compromising outfits quite often...and it's quite known that boys DO make passes at girls who wear glasses, despite what anyone says) who is smart, good in an emergency, and spunky. Spunky is always good.I plan to try to backtrack and fit and fill in on some of the books leading up to, and past this one, I enjoyed this world, I want to go back!
review 2: This book and it's prequel are kinda unique in my experience. I don't know if I've ever read a novelization of a comic before. What's more, I'm actually listening to the audiobook before reading the paper copy. That said, I'm very much enjoying it. The novel actually brings to light things that aren't mentioned in the comic, giving more bacground and history about the world. Giving more hints to the many mysteries that are part of why I love girl Genius. less

I'm continually torn between the novels and the graphic novels. I can't decide which I like better!

I really like these books. I hope they continue to do the novels as well as the comics.

These books have been excellent! I haven't read the webcomics but now plan to.
