review 1: This was my first foray into Steampunk/Fantasy/Sci-Fi and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the novelization of the on-line graphic novel Girl Genius. So if you want pictures go on-line, but I think my imagination served me well. Agatha Clay is a young woman frustrated by the disconnect between her ability to dream big engineering dreams and her inability to implement these dreams. Quirky, weird characters abound--with robots and aliens and quests for world domination too. Some of it is really, pretty hilarious. The authors make hay with the female sidekick to the swashbuckling hero trope. There is a back story, probably in an earlier volume, that I did not read, but you feel up to speed quickly enough. Looking forward to the next installment.

... moretastic steampunk story in which Agatha learns about her past and skills she has that she never knew existed. Mechanicals are a part of every day life and machines and constructs abound and are as normal as a person. This book was well narrated and characters all ahd their own distinctive voices.I've read a small amount of the graphic novel online and it was enjoyable, but I preferred the added detail from the narration. Perhaps I'd feel differently if I'd discovered them the other way around. Of course, I'll have to get over that as there are two novelizations and 13 volumes of the graphic novel. less
