review 1: What a stimulating yet calming and thoughtful book. The book is filled with insights both philosophical and scientific regarding the wisdom of taking time to slow down and celebrate one’s own Sabbath. Iyer offers beautifully that not only will it be good for us but also we the reader will get more done, and done well, if we make time for stillness. The Book is filled with great characters and quotes. Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz offers: “ If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won’t look any further than my own backyard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with.” And the musician Leonard Cohen “ Sitting still as a way of falling in love with the world and everything in it” … And Iyer himself say’s “… talking about sti... morellness is really a way of talking about clarity and sanity and the joys that endure. “"Going nowhere … isn’t about turning your back on the world; it’s about stepping away now and then so that you can see the world more clearly and love it more deeply."Highly recommended
review 2: A brief little book released by TED Books. It's essentially a long TED Talk on the concept of stillness, meditation, and unplugging from today's fast-paced society to gain perspective and overall happiness. However, Iyer's tone and framing of this issue are too rooted in Buddhist theory to interest me much. I'm much more inclined to respond to this topic as framed by practical, non-religious writers like Kevin Kelly, former editor of Wired and author of 'What Technology Wants', who is mentioned here, but who's ideas are not fully explored. All in all, I probably wouldn't have finished this if it weren't so short. less

More questions than answers, many known concepts, not much meat on the bone, but well told.
