review 1: This is about twelve year olds, but I read it anyway. There were some things that should probably warrant a four star rating, but I have a case of over-rating-itus. Everything I rate probably should have one star taken off.Reasons it should be four stars?The MAIN reason is that these four kids, from all over the world, with different accents, and appearances pretend to be nephews/nieces of an Italian dude, and it is almost completely unquestioned! Maybe that's racist or something, but my family isn't all one color, and people ask us about it all the time. And we all speak English as our first language!Plus, Sheng is very frequently called the "Chinese boy" but other than one time, when the American is called the "American boy", the rest of the group is almost always referr... moreed to by their names. That was a little odd to me.However, it is well written, and a strikingly good read. Especially if you're a kid, and you don't notice things like a twenty year old (me).
review 2: This book was okay. There was not a lot of character development. Lots of things are left unsaid, and just left for future additions. It is written in present tense. What was with Elettra's superpower? Also, I couldn't care less about the characters. I absolutely hate Sheng. Mistral should have played a bigger role, she is just kind of there.But I did like the setting, and the characters were sort of interesting, I guess. It was a short read (214 pgs) and kept me engaged for the most part. Definitely something to suggest to younger readers, and those who don't get into the structure of a story. less
