review 1: AftermathShane has finally figured out that Kayden, his rival, is, indeed Jesse, his proverbial one that got away then have to immediately go onstage. After performing what seems like the longest concert of their lives, they ache to get together, but know they still have to wait a while. The rest of their band is shocked to hear Jesse and Shane declaring their devotion and take the news that Kayden is actually their old band member, Jesse, with varying degrees of acceptance. They all need time to let it sink in. As for Jesse and Shane, they hare planning a different way to let it sink in and rush to Shane's condo to get re-acquainted.Even though they would like to skip the talking part, they both know that there's a lot to get out in the open before the inevitable sex. The... morey spend some time reminiscing and clearing the air about how they felt back then, during the separation, and how it made them feel. Only after they cleared the air can they touch without the anger and resentment both of them have been feeling for so long. When they begin to make love, things are still a bit tentative; but they soon realize that this is the way it should have always been between them. They make ravishing, passionate love, worshiping each other’s bodies while declaring how much they love each other.Even though the separation took years from both of their lives, it also made them appreciate each other much more than they would have before it. Now, they can dedicate themselves to each other without hesitation or misunderstanding. As Shane says: “We’re in this forever, Jess. You and me.”AffirmationJesse and Shane are living together, trying to leave the past in the past. Now they are making new memories. They're surprised at how easily they slide into some of their old routines and how quickly they are adapting to new ones. Still, Shane can't quite believe that Jesse is, well, Jesse and no longer Kayden with green eyes, blond hair, and British accent. Although the hair is still blond, Shane can once again stare with love into his Jesse's beautiful gray eyes. Shane swears that nothing will ever come between them again. “Wherever Jesse went, Shane would follow. For the rest of his life he would follow, because now that he had Jesse back, there was no way in hell he was ever letting go.” Shane's heart is overflowing with love and, without meaning to, he asks a question that will ensure they stay together. It seems like an eternity before Jesse answers, but when he does, they fall into each other's arms and, once again, reaffirm their devotion in a most beautiful, sensual session of love making which leaves little doubt about their sincerity.AllegianceShane's younger brother, Nick, is profoundly affected by Shane and Jesse being together again. In his mind, he's afraid he will lose Shane to Jesse; he doesn't know what he will do if that happens. All of his life Shane has taken care of him, fixed his problems, and erased his mistakes. Shane is the only person in the world who Nick thinks could ever love him.Standing in a huge ballroom at Jesse and Shane's wedding makes Nick feel lonely and miserable. After getting staggeringly drunk, Nick decides to try to dull the pain he still so intensely feels, with drugs. Seeing Jesse and Shane together makes him gag and be disgusted at how corny they are. Seeing them in this stolen moment only fuels his anger. Nick handles his revulsion with his other drug of choice, sex. Nick has a rough and tumble session with one of the waiters; but when he wakes up, instead of getting some relief, Nick feels worse than ever. He hates Jesse with a passion and is fed up by what Nick believes is Jesse's pretentiousness and insincerity. As far as Nick is concerned, Jesse is the enemy, but he loves his brother and doesn't want to make him choose between them, so Nick puts up with him. This is a great behind-the-scenes look at Shane and Jesse's loving reunion and the start of their new lives. Even though the road may not always be smooth, now they have each other to share the burden. Thanks, Piper and M.J., for the nice vignettes giving us even more insight into Jesse and Shane's characters.
review 2: This set of three vignettes that are the follow up to Moonlight Becomes You were the perfect resolution to that book and prelude to the next one. I only had one gripe about the first book and that was solved with these little pieces that give closure for Shane & Jesse as well as a peek in to how passionate they can get. This shouldn't be read in isolation due to it really being just follow-up and part of the previous book's plot nor should it be read before the first book because of serious spoilerage. I was left with so many warm fuzzies and the last story has me eager for Nick's book. He's such a strong and set in his ways tight who is far from someone looking for love.Love the series so far. less
