Headline Review
review 1: I really enjoyed this book, especially as it was one I had no intention of reading and just picked it up at the library last week. I like the writing style and how it was written as though she was talking to Rex. I think it shows the contrast between how strong some relationships can be, and how easily they can be weakened. I would like to change how Fran left though; I think it would've been better that she said something along the lines of: "Yes Gina, I am leaving because of you! I can't stand to live in the same house as the person whose husband I had an affair with!" I also didn't like the sort of, unrealistic sense. I know that stress on a pregnant person can cause deformities in the baby - and she was under A LOT of stress, but oh well. I love how she called the baby... more Hope, the best part. Defiantly recommend as a summer read.
review 2: This is my second Polly Williams book and I am enjoying her style of writing. This is a story with an interesting premise, Gina, a newly wed, discovers her husband, Rex, has gone missing while on holiday with his brother and friends in Spain. With no news and no body found Gina refuses to believe that he is dead and is determined to find him. As her friends and relatives begin to accept that he is probably dead they try to encourage her to move on with her life. However, Gina soon finds that there is one thing she never thought she would have to face alone - she is pregnant. As the story develops, mainly told from Gina's point of view, we discover that Rex and Gina both have secrets and trying to bury the past can have a big effect on the future. Gina is a sympathetic character, even if you do want to shake her at times, and you do want to see her find some sort of resolution. The other characters in the book are well drawn, Rex's brother Jake is a particularly likeable character. This book is a good read and I will look out for more books from Polly Williams. less
