review 1: 5 stars for the entire trilogy! What I liked about this series is nothing was skimmed over, everything explained. The day to day happenings were recorded. Not so much angst as there was true life events. It showed how amazing, fulfilling and rewarding life could be with love, family and friend support and the right environment to raise and nurture kids and to nurture love between spouses. I won't go into details, but Hugo and Kevin met in high school, were separated, got back together, death of an 'ex-wife', bigoted in-laws, loving in-laws, good friends, school bullying, snarky acquaintances with love reigning triumphant!Very good job, Ms Roberts!
review 2: I have loved watching Hugo and Kevin work through their new life together. They've weathered some t... moreough battles in these three books, from Kevin's coming out, Hugo's admittance that he does drag, watching Erin die, and then dealing with their grief and the kids'. When I initially read the description upon finishing book 2, I was very anxious. It felt like there was going to be some real angst as Hugo forced himself to deal with life in suburbia and to make some hard choices. In truth, it felt more like I was just walking alongside them in their journey. Yes, there were ups and downs, but the angst I felt was coming never actually did. I can't decide if I'm happy or disappointed about that.This story opened my eyes once again to the challenges gay/bi families often have, especially when children and schools are involved. Roberts did an excellent job handling those issues with sensitivity and a sense of realness that just felt right to me. Overall, this was an excellent series and a beautiful love story. less
