review 1: Descendants is a really good book. I loved the mythical, magic, world and characters of this story.Sollara lives in the Deep Kingdom, a place deep under ground where people who have pretty much been kicked out of Atlanticus live. She finds out her "parents" are not her real parents but took her after her real parents were killed. The only person she is close to is her maid who turns out to be someone else. You'll be surprised to read who she really is. On her eighteenth birthday Sollara convinces her "dad" to take her to the surface, a place she has never seen. She is only there a couple minutes when she sees this stunning guy, Kai. Her "dad" immediately takes her back to the Deep Kingdom after seeing her reaction. The story really takes off from here. Her maid ov... moreerhears her "parents" talking and knows she only has one chance to get Sollara out of the Deep Kingdom and to the surface. Once Sollara and Kai get to the surface they meet up with some others who are to help them. I'm not going to say how Sollara and Kai are in the Deep Kingdom together, don't want to give away anything. They meet the other two Elementals and some dark ones. Dark ones are some type of vampire creature. Sollara starts to learn what powers she has and what her prophecy with Kai is. I loved all the different things she is able to do as a Elemental. Without giving away any spoilers I'm going to stop right here with saying any more about the plot. I'll just say that this a really good book. It is well written, I loved the world and the characters really brought the book to life. The ending is something else. I was like wait, what? No, this can't be happening but it does. I so want to read the next book to see what is going on. I will be reading more from this author in the future. This e-book was provided to me by the author for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
review 2: Apparantly everyone else loves this story, but for some reason it just didn't click for me. I did read this off wattpad, so maybe it was formatted differently or even entirely different that the printed version, but I just did not like it that much. The time threw me off, because talking about this ancient city and the Deep Kingdom and whatnot, I thought it was in a fictional world in the past, but then it comes down to private jets and shopping and TV and it just ruined the mythical, magically feel of the story for me.And despite the prophecy speaking of both Kai and Sollara, I think everyone put too much emphasis on Sollara and saw Kai as nothing but her sidekick. We also know that Sollara spent her entire life underground, but Lynn seemed to forget this a lot. Whilst underground, Lynn never fully described the physical characteristics, nor do we see people other than the servants, Mari and Sugoi, and some gaurds. Lynn says the underground is vast and Mari is the ruler, but we never see anyone. And being underground would make someone super pale and sensitive the sunlight, but not once is Sollara's skin color discussed, and when she goes to the surface she is not sensitive to the sunlight at all. The writing seemed disjointed and clumsy and amateurish, and I frowned several times while reading because the writing was just too frustrating to follow. I did like the story, yes, but the writing was just bothering me and too many key details were overlooked or missing and Lynn's world just didn't seem real to me. less
