review 1: salvatore, how the hell does he do it.. he can keep me on the edge of my seat with every one of his books in the long and seemingly never-ending drizzt saga. again we are left with so many possibilities. (spoiler alert from now on) the relationship to dahlia had been doomed and the end was somehow predictable due to drizzt's high moral standards, that have recently kept every reader wondering. i'm still not sure what to make of it.. but maybe drizzt understood that good is maybe not always the true good but maybe just the lesser evil. those high moral standards can be self-destructive and drizzt had to fight many inner fights in this realization. i cannot give five stars yet, though i would love to. there were just some for me slightly ridiculous scenes in this book that s... morepoiled the five stars (the 18 year sleep? dude, what?) but i'm of course happy to see guen back and really would love to hear more on that as well as the many enemies that still lay in wait..
review 2: I originally had low expectations for this book. I expected this book to be simply recalling the final showdown of Draygo Quick, Tiago Baenre and Drizzt Do'Urden. Nothing more. My early thoughts were that Quick and Tiago wanted power, and like the two previous books, Drizzt would storm into their castles and strongholds and kill them. However, that was not the case. Quick did not simply want power over Neverwinter, instead looking to the Gods of the word. Furthermore, the final expected confrontation never occurred. Instead, Drizzt and his companions just flew through it without violence nor surrendering. The events of The Last Threshold were not simply about violence, murdering the enemy and saving the world, but about personal relations with each other and how it affects the concept of life and how it influences the events to come. less
