review 1: I really enjoyed this book. It was so simple, so easy, and a fun read with some Christmas thrown in. I must admit, for as much as I love Christmas I do tend to not read any Christmas themed books. I do not have an answer as to why, but this book is making me rethink that approach. What was it that I loved about this book: 1. The concept was so cool. Passing a notebook back and forth with someone and getting to know them for who they are instead of what they are. 2. Though the characters were 16 they didn't necessarily feel that way. And not in a way that is super pretentious (though sometimes Dash was a bit much) but in a way of kids who are smart and fairly independent. 3. Boomer! I just loved Boomer. He is your stereotypical lovable, though not always all there, friend. ... moreMy only issue with this book, and it wasn't 100% of the time but like half the time, was Dash. He just didn't always seem real to me. But that was my main issue, and it was something that didn't take away from the general feel of the book. This was a fun read and definitely something to read around this time of year. I definitely enjoyed it and am so glad it came with my Secret Santa gift!
review 2: This was a cute, fun, Christmas read. I didn't like Dash at first. He starts off as just another pretentious hipster kid, but as he goes through Lily's scavenger hunt and we see him with his friend, Boomer, he seems a bit more fun. Some of the conversations don't seem realistic and Dash and Lily (more in the case of Dash) don't behave like teenagers, even well-read hipster ones.I'm more of the bah-humbug towards Christmas, like Dash, so it was fun to see him going through all the things he hated in order to complete the task (like going to Macy's before Christmas). I also agree on his view on mittens!Lily's family was a lot of fun to read. There are also gay characters in the book that are written as just people in relationships - by this I mean that they feel natural and not like the writers were shoving gay characters in to show how open they are.The snowball/ dog walking scene seemed a little too slapstick-ey but was still fun. This was a sweet Christmastime read. less

For this kind of thing to work, you have to like both of the people. I didn't like either of them.
