review 1: I enjoyed the red notebook, for leading Dash and Lily on their ongoing treasure hunt, and as a receptacle for their true thoughts and feelings. I was slightly worried that once the characters met, that there would be Insty-love, in which case I would have rated this book much lower, so thankfully I was wrong. I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Dash, and Great-Aunt Ida. I now find myself with a hankering for Rice Krispy treats.
review 2: Aside from Lily's childish behavior, I enjoyed this book.Although Dash was a bit pretentious, I liked him a lot (which is kind of surprising because he reminded me of Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye and I didn't like him at all). ... morehis friend in real life though, funny enough. My only problem with this book was the misalignment of the notebook version of Dash and Lily vs. who they were in reality. On paper, they sounded like well-versed young adults but they were actually teenagers who still had curfews and thought they were better than everyone else. (I guess that was kind of the point though — the Dash and Lily I imagined in my head was not the Dash and Lily in real life.)Good read for the Christmas season though. less
