review 1: The protagonist got a bit annoying and the love got so deep and mushy fast that I began skipping the text. 2.5 stars because I cared about the book enough to want to read the next book as it leaves a cliffhanger. The constant reminder that she "didn't want to open up to anyone because of her callous mother" got a bit old (poor me, I can't be myself because I look like my actress mother). I also wasn't a fan of the replacement curse words and the way she acted (eg: kissing a guy so passionately only after a few days of meeting him, hugging another guy because he set up a meeting with Michaelangelo, diving into the lake and under a waterfall where the love interest happens to "accidentally" see her hip tattoo right after their picnic together.) I can't imagine she wouldn't b... moree labeled and ostricized really quick in 1600s Italy.
review 2: I won't lie. I secretly thought I was going to hate this. I thought with a title like "My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century" it was going to be corny from start to finish. Man, was I in for a surprise. I fell in love with characters and the message of the book on the whole. I only gave it a shot because I adore history and I wanted a break from all the dystopian novels I read. This was a breath of fresh air that had me giggling out loud (seriously, just ask my husband). I was entirely transported to a different time and place and I enjoyed every minute of it. Bravo. Fantastic read and I have the sequel waiting for me at home. :) less
