review 1: Admittedly I´ve never been a fan of series sporting changes of POV with no apparent reason. So, after liking Cat and the 1st installment far more than I thought I would, I was kind of disappointed that I wouldn´t get to know Cat in her own 21st century environment. Especially after she got rid her sulky attitude. Though I did like Alessandra, I couldn´t help but fear the book to be a tad boring. But oh sweet heavens, what a really endearing story. Good girl meets bad boy tales with High School setting usually are the same: good girl goes wild (at least a little bit. Never too much), bad boy with obvious good heart and obvious daddy / mummy issues shows soft side. Happy ever after ensued. What makes this story different, then? Shot in the dark: girl comes from 16th centu... morery and has absolutely no idea about cars, cell phones and jeans. It´s rather amazing how much this little detail could change a whole string of prejudices I had before reading the book. And how much it could change the story for the better. Alessandra´s POV offers a sweet, at times naive perception of life. It wasn´t that she faced all those new things and challenges itself, but the fact that they were truly new for her. It makes roller coasters somewhat special for the reader, too, and one starts thinking about little things we are used to, which we take for granted, because we´ve always known them. I´m not even speaking of technology and stuff, but of simple, everyday things like shops, clothing and food. Language. Man, language really goes downhill. Overall it is one big fairy tale, parading all clichés from love to friendship, heart break and happiness to perfection. I´m sure even the greatest pessimist allows himself to dream occasionally and for that opportunity this book´s the perfect choice.
review 2: I liked this one better than the first, it definitely had drama and it felt I guess a little more intense but I guess I'm still searching for some greater reason for it all. Maybe I'm expecting something that's never going to come, but it just feels like the characters are sort of like pieces on a chess board being brought together for something bigger. Harris has present two tales of time travel, backward and forward, two doppelgangers, and one mysterious magical gypsy and created the sort of emotional bond to link the four characters together what she hasn't present yet was something beyond personal growth and emotional drama for these characters to face. While I like the series it doesn't completely make sense to me yet. I like the series for the characters because that's definitely a strength for Harris, creating strong well developed and emotional characters. I guess I just feel like what it's really missing is an enemy, a purpose. Why were these girls, this family chosen to meet and move back and forth in time? What makes these boys they're drawn to important because both stories read as if their love interests aren't random, but chosen. Magic gypsy who drop people in other time periods don't just show up when a girl needs a nudge toward personal growth,if that were the case we'd have all had our own little time travel jaunts and I think the why them and what for really needs to be present in this series and stands as it's biggest drawbacks. less

Very cute and I liked this one much better than the first one. It seemed more plausible, somehow.

Meh... reverse time travel this time - renaissance cousin comes to 21st century cousin.
