review 1: Despite some hocus pocus, this is a much more serious sci-fi than many other kids books I've read. She at least usually treats readers like they have brains. That said, as usual for fiction, the plot relies on vast amounts of coincidence, which was too bad. Also, things stayed in motion a bit too much. The plot took seemingly random tangents every few pages. Still, overall, a nice read. I'd consider reading any sequels (which the author has clearly set up for), and that's saying a lot. I don't often like to read sequels.
review 2: What a fun book! THE LOST PLANET is action-packed right from the start, and all of the details are fantastically well done. Spaceships, aliens, moons, mud-covered planets - Searles knocks the setting and descriptions out of the park.
... moreThe cast of characters is great too, and I found myself invested in Chase's story from page one. Although this book is technically MG, I'd recommend it to all kid, teen, and adult readers who love adventure books - especially space adventures. I can't wait to read more in this series! less
