review 1: ***ARC given by Author in exchange for honest review***The Eagle Elite books are some of my all time favorites. That being said, Rachel blew away all my expectations with Enforce. Unlike a lot of other alternate POV books, Enforce is not a straight up rehash of Elite. There are a lot of story gaps that get filled in, and there are actually four different POVs throughout the book. It was interesting getting to go back in time and be reintroduced to the characters that I've come to understand and appreciate even more. As the series has gone on, we've gotten a glimpse into each character's haunting past. It's fascinating to see how their dark times originated and how they were impacting the Elect before we were even aware of it. It's also fun to go back and watch the Nixon/Ch... morease/Trace love triangle form. Rachel was able to slice my heart open all over again with that situation! I also really loved getting to watch Nixon fight his feelings while falling so hard for Trace. I think you get a greater appreciation of the sacrifices he was willing to make for his family, and at a certain point for Trace. The weight of responsibility, the darkness that follows each member of the Elect, and the need to prove their worth is something that you get a much greater understanding for after reading Enforce. If you love the series, you will adore this book! It's an absolute one-click!
review 2: Reading Enforce by Rachel Van Dyken was illuminating to say the least. As the companion novel to Elite, Enforce returns to the start of the Eagle Elite series, but this time from the different perspectives of the four members of the Elect: Nixon, Chase, Tex and Phoenix. In Elite, protagonist, Tracey Rooks, was clueless to the secret world that she was born into, but that’s not the case with Enforce as the Elect were groomed with the knowledge that they’d one day be leaders of this world. Elite was one of those books that I desperately wished were in dual perspectives, to be able to know not just what was going through Trace’s mind, but also to know what could possibly motivate the extreme actions of her love interest, Nixon Abandonato. Enforce went above and beyond my wildest expectations by delving right into the darker side of the Elect, with characters that are firmly entrenched in a world of danger, death, and destruction, otherwise known as the mafia. While I have gotten to know the men of the Elect over the course of the series (some more than others), Enforce provides an all-access pass into the minds of these characters. Each of the four members of the Elect has a superficial role within the group: Nixon is the untouchable leader, Chase is his easygoing right-hand-man, Tex is the perennial jokester, and Phoenix is the tortured wildcard. Each plays their assigned role, but it isn’t until we are privy to their innermost thoughts that we can see the full weight of the burden that has been placed on their shoulders. The events in this narrative are a catalyst for the rest of the series, revealing how the choices each character makes leads them down their destined path.I've always loved reading from these characters' perspectives because everything is so matter of fact with them. Murder, torture, illegal dealings – these are second nature to the four narrators who grew up in the mafia lifestyle, and it's fascinating witnessing them seamlessly transition back and forth from gangster to college student in the blink of an eye. It was strange (in a good way) going back in time knowing all that's happened and how far the characters have come since the first book. When I first read Rachel Van Dyken’s Elite, I felt a spark of awareness that the book was unlike anything else I had read in the New Adult genre, and Enforce reignited that spark, reminding me once more why I love this series.*complimentary copy provided by author in exchange for an honest review less
