review 1: Never to Sleep is a short bridge novella which is meant to be read between If I Die and Before I Wake. It focuses on Kaylee’s spoilt, self-centered cousin Sophie. Sophie is going about her day as usual when she runs into new student, Luca who accidently smacks a classroom door into her face. He apologises and help her carry the dance uniforms back to the gymn. They happen upon Tod and Kaylee’s public display of affection (mentioned in Before I Die but this time told by Sophie’s POV) which later results in a fight between Tod and Nash. Not wanting to get caught up in Kaylee’s drama, Sophie takes Luca on a different route when suddenly a boy with strange black eyes (a soulless reaper no less) appears out from nowhere. Sophie lets out a piercing scream and finds herse... morelf as well as Luca in the Netherworld of all places….Although Sophie has always been depicted as human in the previous novels, in Never to Sleep it transpires that she has inherited half bean sidhe genes from her father after all. Her ability transports her to the Netherworld when she is terrified. In previous books, Sophie has always come across as a shallow selfish individual who hates her cousin Kaylee for all the wrong reasons. In this novel we begin to see the similarities between both cousins when facing danger. Amazingly with hardly any information about what's happened, why it happened, and how, Sophie manages to keep her head despite being completely terrified and the thousands of questions running through her head. Whether her attitude will change for the better as a result of her experience remains to be seen. Luca on the other hand is an enigma as one can’t help but wonder if he has a hidden agenda. It will be interesting to see how Sophie’s experience in the Netherworld and Luca’s true intentions pan out in the next novel.
review 2: Still not Sophie's biggest fan, but I'm glad to see the events that led to her starting to grow up. I was confused in "Before I Wake" about Sophie and Luca saying they made a trip to the Netherworld on accident. Now I know. I still hate how Sophie thinks she's special and nothing like Kaylee. Hmm, you're cousin screams and freaks out and you think she's crazy, but you scream an see fog, monsters and get sucked to the Netherworld and that doesn't sound familiar?? Hmm, yeah, Sophie wasn't the brightest girl. less

I wish Sophie was not kept in the dark.... All the comments she made made me feel so damn frustrated

I'm not a fan of Sophie but I liked this short insight into her character.

4 1/2.... for purely petty reasons. I just don't like Sophie. *sigh*
