review 2: I read book .5 and 1 in this series and wasn't impressed. I don't know why, but the idea of banshees just didn't click with me. Plus, there were some major holes in the plot. I know this is paranormal young adult fiction, but it should make sense, right? So, I didn't read anymore. One day I was hunting for audiobooks read by Amanda Ronconi, who has become one of my favorite readers, and stumbled across this series again. I decided to give them another chance. I re-listened to the first two books and came away unimpressed once again, but decided to give one more book a chance. I read book 2 and was hooked. By the last book in the series I didn't even care about the continuing plot holes. I had fallen in love with the characters. The heroine, Kaylee, has a heart of gold. She is no pushover, but she is kind and self-sacrificing, even to those who have hurt her in the past. There is nothing she won't do for the people she loves. In fact, sometimes I wanted to slap her a little. She took way too many risks and put herself in way too much danger. Somehow this ended up making her more real to me. She wasn't without her flaws. Then there are her love interests. Oh my goodness!! I didn't see the drama of these plot twists coming at all. At first I wondered about why Vincent added this element to the books. Ultimately I came to see that it made Kaylee's end relationship so much more solid. Her first relationship served as sort of a foil to her final one. [Trying not to include a spoiler here.] In the end, I bawled [yes, bawled out loud] through the end of the final book. Plot holes and all, I had come to really care about Kaylee and all of the people in her life. I found her final actions incredibly courageous, and I am so glad she found a happy ending with her "eternal companion." less
