review 1: This book is written as a novel and presents concepts of faith and the early christian church. Since it discusses the gnostics and since they are generally considered to be heretics by mainstream christianity today and also since much of their lives and faith is largely unknown, the author wisely chose to present the story as a novel. I found myself admiring the faith and beliefs of the gnostics as Davila protrayed them. I hope he writes more about this topic.
review 2: The Gnostic Mystery by Randy DavilaA difficult book to review. It is meant to be fiction, but how much is actually fiction, I am not well-read enough to judge. The story however has as its background years of study such as the Dead Sea Scrolls which are already known to exist. Conversationally, ... moreit left a bit to be desired, I find it difficult to think of academics being so short-winded when statements are made. I will write a fuller review but I would like to consult with Randy Davila with a couple of questions first. Full review to come, but my feeling for the book is to say I did enjoy it, and found it very compelling. I have given it 4 stars at this point.My reason for the delay: I left shortly after receiving the book to go to Saskatchewan (2400 some-odd km away), pick up two toddlers & drive them back again 2400 km through rain and construction detours, kept them for a couple of weeks before delivering them to their new home in B.C., about 1200 km from our home, then returning. I just got back as a matter of fact. At this point I must take a quick look through to refresh my memory before proceeding. less
