review 1: I think everyone should read this book, at least once. The way Fawkes puts all these stories together is marvelous. Even though at first I think I would have enjoyed it more if he would have given more of a Buddhist kind of concept, that when one died he would replace that person/form to another since it’s still the same soul (then again aren’t we all one soul? Very trippy concept). Also what would have been wicked if he actually would have made all the characters meet, someway or another, since the world is so small. Spectacular read, I dedicated my whole day on this book since I take long to read comic books, I like to admire zee art, like a lot cuz’ I know how hard it is to draw one freakin’ panel. But also cuz’ I had to ponder what this wonderful man was impl... moreying and such. Enough, no more about me contemplating the morality or truth of what is and what we are, it’s your turn!
review 2: A modern day drug addict lesbian, a Japanese silk maker, a Revolutionary War hero, a priestess of Artemis, a Native American warrior, and thirteen other characters from various time periods and walks of life all begin their lives the same way and share strangely similar emotions although their experiences could not be more different. Fawkes creative use of the 18 panel, two page spread allows for each character to narrate their story using a single frame on each of the two page spreads. This very challenging read may be met with some initial confusion as the reader tries to suss out who is who and where the characters belong in both setting and history; however, as the book progresses, each narrative becomes firmer and more engrossing. Fawkes' somewhat crude, black and white artwork pays little attention to facial accuracy and therefore forces the reader to rely on his or her memory to understand which character is which based on the position of the frames. This Eisner Award nominated graphic novel is recommended as an essential purchase for adult collections. less

I've read it about 8 times, still working on each individual story.
