review 1: So you see I do not only read "fancy" books, this was a book that seemed to follow me for a while. I saw it first months ago, when, because of a project at work, I had to design a small theatre made out of paper or cardboard, and I thought it was interesting I found this in the bookshop. Of course, it was closed, so I could not see how it was on the inside and so I couldn't know if it would be useful for what I needed to do. And since it was very expensive, I didn't buy it. Then I went to another bookshop and asked about it. It was sold out, and when I asked the guy how the book was on the inside he gave me a very strange explanation. So now, for the new year, when we went to our annual book buying session and we found it, cheaper than ever (but still quite expensive, I mu... morest confess), I felt it was a sign of fate and bought it.I must say it is not a normal book. Starting with the fact that it is a book "for children" (although I think a child would destroy it in two seconds). It doesn't tell a story either, it is more like a recompilation of characters from other books the author has made. Rebecca Dautremer, in case you are like me and had never heard of her, is more an illustrator than an author. She makes a lot of those books that, at least to me, seem so appealing in bookshops with amazing drawings and illustrations. The book not only compiles some of her characters and a couple of phrases from the stories they belong to, but instead of just drawing the characters, they are… cut into the paper? I'm not sure if this is the best way to explain it. It is as if the book had a great hole in the middle. And the characters were the only thing in each page: the only paper left in the hole is the character. Well… I don't know, you would have to see it to understand with clarity. What I can say is that they are amazing. Not only the drawings, but the detail with which they are cut, and the compositions made when you see one page on top of the others…As I have mentioned before, books bring beauty into the world, and this is proof that they don't necessarily do it through words. It seems a book with 80 sentences and 80 pages shouldn't take that long to read, but this one does, because you could spend hours looking at each drawing. But, I do not recommend it for children: everything is too delicate for a child not to destroy…Besides that, it left me with a great desire to read the histories and stories all these characters come from...
review 2: This is how a mere book takes you to another world through it's artistic construction.Le decoupage of it is captivating, it's such a lovely book. I originally bought it for my little sister which traveled with my parents, so i took the chance to check it out before she does, now although this book have no story (Which annoyed me a bit), it's amazing because of the hard work it was put in it as a work of art. less
