review 1: 2 1/2 stars, This wasn't a bad book, the story was really good and the writing was great but Acksel the hero was too week and chicken to be the alpha, he cared to much about what the other werewolves though and ended up waiting YEARS to make a move on the heroine and then **SPOILERS** he left her after that one night because he needed a she-wolf who was strong. My other huge issue was that the she-wolves that had been with him got away too easy with treating the heroine Brynn like crap and talking about sleeping with Acksel in the bed that he and Brynn now shared. I get that Brynn had to show her strength but he should have FLIPPED out**END SPOILERS**Brynn and Acksel went to school together and when everyone picked on him(before his change) Brynn was always kind to him eve... moren though she was in the "in" crowd. Both Acksel and Brynn always liked each other but the pack law was that no-one could mate a human or be banished(even though he is the alpha and can change the laws). When Acksel's sister falls in love with a human and mates with him Acksel changes the rules(but he wouldn't do that for Brynn). Even thought the law is changed Acksel still stays away from Brynn because he knows that as the Alpha he needs a strong she-wolf to be the alpha female, because the other she-wolves will not make it easy on the mate he chooses because of jealousy(again he doesn't change the laws for this either**spoilers till later**end spoilers). When Acksel goes out one night and drinks to much he smells Brynn and knows she is his mate and can't deny his feelings anymore. Going to Brynn's house they become intimate only to have Acksel leave in the morning before she wakes up. Brynn was devastated she always wanted to be with Acksel but knew with the rules they could never be together but she had hoped with him coming to her he decided to be with her. When she tries to call Acksel but he ignores her for weeks, till Mia a she-wolf and best friend to Brynn tells him Brynn is pregnant. Now that Acksel has decided he wants to be with Brynn others have plans to take Brynn and force Acksel to leave town and renounce his alpha status. But even when that situation is taken care of many still aren't happy with Acksel's choice and he and Brynn will both have to decide if they are willing to do what is necessary to be together. I think Acksel took the easy way out way too much in this book (especially since he was the alpha), and I also think he got off way too easily for what he put Brynn through. I'm not saying this book was bad because it wasn't, the world building was very interesting, and the side characters were written with as much care as Brynn and Acksel, but all of that got lost and felt over shadowed with Acksel. I think in PR an author can get away with way more when it comes to the heroes behavior (especially his possessiveness and strength) and I just didn't see that in this book. I think if the author had made a few changes this book would have been great.
review 2: I loved this book!!! In Mate of Her Heart, we met Acksel and learned that he is kind of a jerk, but in The Alpha's Heart we get to know and love him and his arrogant ways. I love how Brynn has Acksel wrapped around her finger from the get go, its fun to watch the big bad alpha be big and bad to everyone but Brynn and with her, he's a big teddy bear. They have a lot of issues to overcome with a human / wolf pairing but together they grow and become better alphas because of it. I also enjoyed Brynn's growth from a somewhat timid human to a fierce and protective alpha. The overall character growth was great and the interactions between Brynn and her best friend Mia are hilarious. I can't wait for the next book to come out!!!! less
