#10: Hail Megatron! Love, Soundwave (November 6, 2014)

The tenth postcard to arrive came from the same source as the ninth: Scribble It! 30 Postcards, by Taro Gomi.

(Same creepy clown stamp, too.)

This card is referencing Transformers, the media franchise created in the 1980s that encompasses toys, animated TV series and films, comic books, and video games.

  • Slugfest is a character who appeared in the mid-80’s animated TV series “The Transformers.” He is one of the Decepticons’ Cassette Warriors, which are tiny transformers used as spies. Slugfest, who takes the form of a stegosaurus, is described as follows:

He’s as slow and stupid as he looks. Plays back the messages he carries, thinks others are talking about him, goes into violent rages. End result is usually destruction of messages and nearby small towns that get in his way. In stegosaurus mode, plates on back, like teeth on a chainsaw, cut through almost any substance; carries 2 solar-powered vibro-cannons.

  • Megatron is “a sentient robotic lifeform from the planet Cybertron and the leader of the villainous Decepticons as well as the archenemy of the Autobot leader Optimus Prime.”
  • Soundwave is the Decepticons’ Communications Officer and the leader of the Cassette Warriors. In the original animated series, Soundwave was known as “Megatron’s right-hand robot.”
