Just an aside before my review: don’t get the cover fool you. I may have some hesitation first before requesting the ARC but since I’ve read the series from the beginning and met Ryan McLean, I had to read his story. And I wasn’t disappointed at all.
When Ryan meets in match, well you know that it’s going to be explosive. Since that man doesn’t do thing half way, he would turn every stone until things got in the right way.
Our mercenary got hooked and when he set his eyes on the most beautiful and dangerous woman he’s ever seen, you know for sure that their story will be a little complicated. I really liked this characters, this big bear, all hard from the outside but all softie in the inside. He’s a sunshine and always seeing the bright side of things. Even with his work where he put his life on danger, he is aware of the risks. Definitely not the broody man I’ve expected.
The author managed to create something very interesting about this character that made you fall instantly in love with the dude. He could be seen as a cliché at first but when you start digging you’re going from one surprise to another one. Playing a bit with his good looks, he loved to make people think that he just a good-looking guy but it was the contrary. Always with one step ahead, evaluating every possibilities until Mariana Lora.
The thief meets also her match. Taken aback by how she felt about this big softie, Mariana was definitely playing with fire and breaking every rules. But why not having fun just for one night. Ryan supposed to be a means to an end and one moment threatened everything she worked for. Her freedom. This heroine is such a badass, independent, knowing all her life to stay hidden in the shadows, operating meticulously, with no remorse. Straight to the point. No distractions. Until M. I-know-it-all, who is determined to chase her no matter what crossed her path.
The banter is off the charts and some lines of dialogue are definitely priceless. Hot with a syrup of sugary sweet, tons of stubbornness and badassery, shake it all and you’ll have an explosive recipe, just enough foreboding to challenge the reader until the end.
Each book gets better. A bit of action, lot of sass, an alpha hero with a very sensitive side, an independent, strong and badass heroine, a story that keeps you captivated and entertained. Right up my alley!!
And I think I need a re read. My favorite of this series, without hesitation. Please don’t let the cover fool you, just worth the read. Go get wicked!!
