review 1: Like the other books in the series, "Hilda And The Bird Parade" is whimsical, tender, and much too brief. I was a little wary of Pearson taking Hilda out of the mountains and into the city but this book proves that she's bound to find adventure whenever she goes. The "Hilda" series is exactly what an all-ages book should be like: the artwork is simple yet stimulating (the use of warm and cool colors against one another is absolutely perfect), the story is smart and doesn't talk down to younger readers, the setting is surreal but still grounded in reality, and it's full of likable characters. As I've mentioned, the only flaw in this book is that it's over too quickly; I could easily spend much more time in Hilda's world.I loved it. My son loved it. It's another solid entry i... moren the Hilda series. Why some animation studio hasn't bought the rights to these wonderful books is beyond me.
review 2: I read this because it is on Booklist's top 10 graphic novels of 2013 for youth. I enjoyed it. It is highly original and features a dauntless and caring young girl who moves from the country to the city. She sets out to explore her city the same way she used to explore the countryside, despite her mother's fear for her safety. She meets up with some kids from school who like to cause trouble. When they throw rocks at birds and knock one out of the tree, Hilda rescues the bird. She doesn't realize the adventures her good deed will lead her to. It is a fantasy world, but not too far removed that children won't identify with Hilda. less

Not as exciting or engaging as the other Hilda books I've read, but I liked it all the same.
