4 Disappointing Books

These days there seems to be more and more books that I’m having trouble enjoying. This is mainly because my imagination gets the best of me, and the book(s) ultimately fall to meet my expectations. Sometimes the books I read are nothing like what their synopsis’ told me they’d be like; so there’s that as well. Here are some books that have disappointed me.

When My Heart Was Wicked by Tricia Sterling

Really this book was better for my in my memory than it was while I read it. I find that quite a few books that I’ve read always end up that way: “it was bad when I read it, but recalling it in my memory, it seems to be ok.” This is how When My Heart Was Wicked was for me. I ended up borrowing this book through the library (thank goodness), and what I read was a very confusing story that had a happy ending and a whole lot of middle plot that didn’t need to happen in my opinion. But hey, this books story is more than likely a favourite for someone else.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell

The first book that I ever read that was by Rowell was Fangirl. I loved the novel, and also ended up enjoying Attachments. When the time came around that Landline was to be published, I found that there was quite a few people that recommended this book like no other! Then I read the book, and then I discovered that Landline didn’t have much sparkle, which a ton of people said that there was a lot of.

Queen of Someday by Sherry D. Ficklin

Queen of Someday is described as a book in which a princess has to attain the hand of a prince and -ultimately- secure an heir. I gave Queen of Someday a chance because, hey! Why not! And the story is a Historical Fiction, which I have a bad record with anyway… Which should have been my first clue really, but hello! Free books are my ultimate weakness! So I gave this book a shot and found that this book takes place in Russia which is really the only redeeming quality that this book has in my opinion! I really did not like Queen of Someday, friends.

Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky

I first came across Awaken about a year before the book was published. At that time I believe I was in 10th grade, so I didn’t have a lot of time on my hands in the first place, and I was just in a generally bad mental head space. But I remember this book because it was the first time that I had suggested Awaken as a purchase at my library. And years later when I got back into reading, I re-found Awaken! I was actually really looking forward to reading this book. I borrowed the book and took it home. However when I got to reading it, while there were some good parts, for the most part was a complete let down. In my mind I had this image that there was going to be an epic adventure. The main character would save the world, blah blah blah. Did that happen? Nope! Almost, but not quite.

These are a few books that have disappointed me. Are there any books that have disappointed you?

Happy Reading!
Adele
