review 1: I really enjoyed the perspective of Edward IV's brothers, George and Richard, through the eyes of their wives. They're integral to the story, but it's often limited to the Lancaster v. York story arc. The rivalry between the York brothers is what created the opening for Henry VII to ultimately overthrow their short-lived dynasty. Isabelle and Ann Neville were allies and were rivals, torn between loyalty to their father's family and the ambitions of their husbands. And of course, ultimately it meant heartbreak for Anne, who was abandoned by her beloved husband Richard for her niece, the future Queen of England.
review 2: Very impressive.. how the author can tell the story from such a different perspective than her other novel 'the White Queen' in which Elizabet
... moreh was good. P Gregory really gets into the "minds" of the characters. In this book, we view events through Anne Neville's perspective: an annoyingly immature, gullible, superstitious girl. Haha. But towards the end I did start to wonder if Elizabeth was behind some deaths. Hmmm, maybe, but you could hardly blame her. Anne is not a very likable character (particularly in the last half). Good story though. P Gregory's books are pretty enjoyable. I still think 'the White Queen' is my favorite (full of tension). less
