Art Feature – Alpaca With WiFi

The stage name of this artist is a bit different, I know. But that doesn’t mean her work is devoid of skill.

So far, most of the art styles I have featured are either doodle-like or realistic. This one is a bit more to the anime side. And honestly speaking, it’s quite amazing.

The toughest thing about anime art is making the character look good or “kawaii”. The main reason is because we are attuned to seeing the realistic faces around us and to get attracted to a non conventional form of beauty is tough.

But that does not mean it’s not doable. This artist proves it. Check out these images:

They are quite beautiful in my opinion and also at the same time, not repetitive. One of the mistakes many learning anime styled artists make is using repetitive faces. The fact that the face is not one we are accustomed to seeing in real life means that once we find an anime face we have drawn attractive, we tend to stick with repetitively drawing the same kind of face.

I actually wondered if she didn’t draw hands due to the classic artist fear of drawing them. Turns out that she does draw hands.

I have to admit that I love the way the grass is coloured here and how even the male looks pretty handsome. Trust me when I say that drawing anime styled good looking males is not an easy task.

The detailing of clothing creases and shading of the hair as per lighting was a smart touch in order to bring them to the foreground.

Oh and did I mention that she draws cute nekos as well?

I gotta admit that the subtle hearts in the background and the casual stars on her shirt do bring out quite the impact.

In fact it saddened me when I found out that the cute neko was undergoing some troubled times:
