I did say in my previous post that there will be a lot of posts this month and I wasn’t lying. What in the world does that mean? Well, just that there’s going to be a lot of anime related content. This is the first post in the series. So, let’s get to it!
Saying anime is close to my heart would be a gross understatement. I’ve been watching anime for a very long time. Probably since I was four years, I guess. Maybe five. I’m not sure. The point is that I’ve loved anime for a long long time.

First, let’s talk about what anime is. Anime is the abbreviation for ‘animation’. In Japan, it is used to refer to all animation but everywhere else, anime is used for Japanese animation specifically. In the recent forty-fifty years, anime has grown from a form of animation local to Japan to a worldwide phenomenon. It is extremely popular all over the world with a massive following. It has an extremely wide audience – from children to adults – all love anime.

But why is this the case, one might wonder? What makes anime so special? My brother and I have had very heated discussions on this particular question. He never cared for it. I, on the other hand, am extremely passionate about the anime that I love. So, if someone were to ask me why anime is so special, this is what I have to say – “It’s different”. The thing is, anime characters and plot lines often tend to make a lot more sense and have a lot more depth. Take Naruto, for instance. I began watching Naruto when I was twelve or thirteen years old. I watched it again last year (mainly Shippuden). As an adult, I now recognise and see themes and small details that I missed as a child. A lot of thought has been put into each character. The same is with Darker Than Black. Normal cartoons and even some regular TV shows just don’t have that strength in them.

There is also the matter of the visual appeal. Anime characters are the ultimate. They resemble humans and their expressions and emotions are always hyped. As a child, I’ve always loved that classic smile-with-your-eyes-closed look. It’s a very expressive form of emotions and sometimes, especially when you’re young, that’s just what speaks to you. It attracts your attention. The bright coloured hair, the bright vivid eyes. It’s all a part of the undeniable magic that anime has.
That’s why I love anime. It has a charm of its own.
