Bloguest 2017 | Favourite Childhood Reads

Hello, dear people of the Internet!

For those who don’t know me, my name is Kira and I blog at DeliriousDreams.

I could not be more excited to be a part of Bloguest again this year, it’s my third time! A big thank you to Kayleigh for letting me join again.

My topic for this year’s Bloguest is: My favourite childhood books

This topic interested me a lot because I think it’s so interesting to see what people read when they were younger, and how their taste changed. I chose 3 Books / Book series’ that I would like to introduce to you, from 3 different stages in my life. So let’s start!

  • Letters from Felix:  The German book “Briefe von Felix” (Letters from Felix) by Annette Lange is about the stuffed rabbit Felix. Little Sophie loses Felix at the end of a vacation. She is incredibly upset because she and Felix are inseparable. After some time, a letter from London arrives for Sophie – a letter from Felix! Sophie keeps getting new letters from Felix from all over the world.
  • When did I read the book?  Age 5-8 (Primary School)

What I loved about the book: Felix, the little-stuffed rabbit, is now travelling the world! He keeps sending Sophie letters and tells her about the place he is currently visiting. For me as a child, it was so awesome to actually read Felix’s letters. Because his letters are actually included in the books! It’s very educational as well since Felix tells Sophie a lot about the places he visits. That way, children can learn more about other countries and their cultures.

    2. Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne : Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne is a Manga series by Arina Tanemura and it revolves around 16-year old Maron Kusakabe. Maron is 16 years old and is an ordinary high school student by day. But at night she turns into Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne (Phantom Thief Jeanne) with the help of her little Angle Fynn Fish. Together they hunt demons. Demons possess the souls of pure people and makes them do horrible things and Jeanne is the only one who can defeat the demons.

When did I read the book?  First read it at age 10

What I loved about the book: I grew up watching Animes (this was turned into one as well!) so reading Mangas has always been natural to me. Maron was someone I looked up to as a child, she was abandoned by her parents as a kid, but yet she was so strong. She saved people and kicked ass and I always wanted to be like her and save the world from all the demons.

It’s also a bit educational since Maron is the reincarnation of Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc). While reading the books I learned a lot about who Jeanne d’Arc was, and also a lot about the Hundres Year’s War between the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of France. Something I never learned anything about in school!

I still read the Manga from time to time, but I watch the Anime (42 episodes á 20 minutes) every summer – that’s tradition!

    3. Cathy Vickers Trilogy: The Cathy Vickers Trilogy was written by Jordan Weisman and Sean Stewart. It consists of the Books “Cathy’s Book”, “Cathy’s Key” and “Cathy’s Ring”:

Things in Cathy’s life aren’t going very well: Her Boyfriend Victor broke up with her. Her father died unexpectedly, she’s failing school, and her best friend is mad at her. But then Cathy decides to learn more about Victor’s reasons for breaking up with her. But then things go from bad to extremely bad, her findings bring up more questions instead of answers. Cathy is pulled into a strange and fascinating world and learns, that things often aren’t the way they seem.

When did I read the book?  Age 11-13

What I loved about the book: This Book Series is still one of the most interesting books I have ever read. The way this was build up, is so genius in my opinion.

The story is interesting and makes you wanna find out what happened and, what’s the most amazing thing, every clue that Cathy finds, is in the Book. Like, Cathy finds a napkin with a phone number on it? It’s in the book! You can look at all the clues and try to figure things out. Cathy mentions a birth certificate? A Certificate of Death? A menu card from a restaurant? A photo? It’s all in a bag that’s included in the book!

Or, there is a phone number printed on the phone cover and you can actually call that number and hear Cathy’s Voicemail! There are websites mentioned in the books that exist and and and!  It’s like being a detective.

I will include photos of the clues so you can see for yourself what I mean. It was my favourite book when I was a teen, it had romance, friendship, humour and mystery, and a secret to discover in it. I also loved that a song called “Lost (Cathy’s Song)” was produced for this book series.

These were my 3 favourite books from my childhood / early teen years! I would love to know what you guys read, let me know in the comments !!

I hope you enjoyed this post, I had so much fun writing it.

    Until next Bloguest!
