review 1: Vernetta Henderson does it again. I am really enjoying this series by author Pamela Samuels Young. These are the black people I know. They're not very pretentious and fake at all. Her characters are real. We all know people like Special Moore. Her characters go through the same things that regular people do such as questioning their beliefs like Jefferson and Special. The mystery of the death of Judi, who was suing Big Buy for sexual discrimination along with Olivia and Ida, is at the crux if the story. At the same time, there is conflict between Vernetta and bitter rival Girlie Cortez. Vernetta has just lost a high profile rape case against Girlie, her third. Girlie stops at nothing to win and Vernetta plays by the rules. Winning this case would make up for all ... moreof the others. Lots of personalities in this one. I love the story and all the characters that were involved. This was a good read and will probably be read again.
review 2: This was my first book by this author and I was hooked from the sample chapters and ordered it immediately. It was fast paced and kept me interested . . . until the last three or four chapters. I found that part to be unrealistic and kind of far-fetched that lawyers and police officers would behave in that way. I was so disappointed by it because I had been so engrossed in the story up until that point. I will read another novel by this author in the hopes that I won't invest hours of reading only to be left unfulfilled with the ending. less
