Book review: The wizards of once by Cressida Cowell

Blurb: This is the story of a young boy Wizard named Xar and a young girl Warrior named Wish who have been taught to hate each other like poison; and the thrilling tale of what happens when their two worlds collide.

Once there was Magic, and the Magic lived in the dark forests…

I received a copy of this book in my Booklings crate rep box.

The book is about a wizard boy named Xar whose magic hasn’t come in yet and a warrior girl named Wish who isn’t really great at being one. Their paths cross when Xar goes out to capture a witch.

The book takes you on a journey filled with adventure and magic. The book was very entertaining and I found all the illustrations very beautiful. I loved the author’s writing & descriptions of the woods too. I also liked all the different kinds of creatures and their creative names. It was a very fun book to read and a pretty quick read. It’s definitely aimed for children but if you love the fantasy genre, you’ll definitely like this book.

The gorgeous illustrations like these definitely bumped up the book a notch for me.

It also gave me Once upon a time (tv show) vibes in some parts. I definitely want to pick up the How to train your dragon books now, after reading this. Also this book is going to be a series and I definitely liked it enough to pick up the next book.

P.S. loved the poem at the end.

Rating: 4/5 stars from me.

Have you read this book? Would love to know your thoughts!
