review 1: Jordan Johnston is average. She is always looking for something to make her stand out. Jordan writes 3 lists, a 'what i'm good at' list, a 'what i'm great at' list, and a 'what i'm bad at' list. Somehow Marlea the bully gets a hold of the lists and reads them out loud to a group of girls and totally embarrasses Jordan. Jordan tries to find a way to stop the bully once and for all. the book starts off slow then at the end really picks up with excitement! Jordan might not be average after all! This book was entertaining and i liked it a lot!
review 2: About Average is a great story with a great lesson for children and adults. This is the description of the main character via goodreads, "Jordan Johnston is average. Not short, not tall. Not plump, not slim. No
... moret blond, not brunette. Not gifted, not flunking out. Even her shoe size is average. She’s ordinary for her school, for her town, for even the whole wide world, it seems." And that's what makes this book so great. Jordan Johnston is average. We are all average and so Jordan automatically becomes someone we can all relate to.The story is about bullying mostly, and secondly about how Jordan really wants to be more than average. The way Jordan deals with the bully in her life in the end makes her better than average. In a world where the subject of bullying is over used, mis-used and often redundant I found this book refreshing. Andrew Clements has the right answer for dealing with the issue of bullying. After all we are all bullies in one form or another. Kindness and treating each other with respect really is the key to eliminating bullying. This is a book that all schools should use in their anti-bullying campaigns and every parent should share with their children.I also have to mention that the illustrations by Mark Elliot were wonderful, even on the kindle. less
