Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno (Review)

I’ve had this on my TBR since the novel was released. After watching Rogue One when it was released in theaters, I wanted to find anything to read about it. I had pre-ordered this from Barnes and Noble because it included a mini pull out poster in this special edition. Then I haven’t picked it up since it had arrived until the end of August when I picked it up. I had also put it on a list of books I wanted to read before the end of the year and I’m glad I finally picked it up.

If you haven’t seen Rogue One yet, rent it. It is one of my favorite Star Wars movies.  The book bridges the gap between near the end of the Clone Wars and Rogue One. It shows how Orson Krennic did what he did to develop a super weapon for the Empire after the fall of the Republic. Galen Orso and his wife, Lyra, were at a research center when the Sepertists took control of the planet and the Orsos tried to escape the planet when they were captured. Kept from each other for months until they were rescued. Krennic sweeps them back to the core world. The Oros, including their young daughter Jyn, are swept up into the secrets of the rising Empire.

I liked reading about how everything came about before Rogue One. We didn’t know much about Galen Orso during Rogue One except that he was forced to work for the Empire. I also liked seeing Tarkin and his interactions with Krennic. I also really enjoyed the characterization of Lyra through out the book, despite only seeing her very briefly in the movie.

I would recommend this book to any Star Wars fan or anyone looking to read more.
