Chasing Lincoln’s Killer’s book was written by author James Swanson, is based on rare archival material, obscure trial manuscripts, and interviews with relatives of the conspirators and the man hunters. It is a fast-paced thriller about the pursuit and capture of John Wilkes Booth, a wild twelve-day chasing through the streets of Washington D.C., across Maryland and into the forest of Virginia.
It was an easy decision for me to choose and read this book because I was interested to know the truth about Abraham Lincoln’s death since the first time I heard that he was shot by a guy. Also he was known as a great, respectful president who led the United States through its civil war and preserved the Union as he paved the way to abolish slavery and strengthened the federal government.
While reading this book, I discovered that John Booth assassinated president Lincoln because he wanted to avenge for the south after the war was ended as General Lee surrendered his army to the Court House, and the president was paving the way to abolish the southern’s slavery. However, I think John Booth was misbehaving against the president and also the Country because it’s the time that the citizens were enjoying and celebrating the end of its civil war, and the reunion of the country. Also I discovered that he had eight loyal accomplices who helped him through the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and escape from the government. Reading this book offered me understanding of the American history to my knowledge, and also made me want to know more about the American history.
During the time I read this book, it made me feel depress as it explain how they carried out their plan to kill the president and how they assassinated him, at the same time it made me feel upset because the president who just overcame the civil war and who tried to build a great nation was disappeared like a dream during a night.
I recommend this book to every citizens of the American because it is not just a book or story but the true history of the Americans during the 1865, which was happened just after the civil war ended. If you are really into it, reading this book would change the way you see the president Abraham Lincoln and John Booth in different ways because it used words that would give you different kind of emotions.
