review 1: For a novel with such an intriguing blurb, this was quite a chore to read. The prose was nice and the author clearly has talent but the story was all over the place. It danced around the past making the flashback style anecdotes rather dull and seemingly pointless, and even the present was fairly boring. It seemed to half-tell a handful of ideas instead of weaving together threads of one whole idea. I think Viola's eating disorder was grossly undeveloped, and Issy was a character I found difficult to connect with. It all felt quite shallow, and I was left with a sense of not really knowing what the story was about. Promising words for a debut author but there will need to be much stronger story development for me to pick up another.
review 2: I have mixed feeli
... morengs about this book. Some parts I liked and some I didn't. The characters are interesting and their development over time was good. As the identical twins grow up, their lives were very different and they became very different. The main problem with the book, is that the author jumps from one character to another and from one time to another. This made the story difficult to follow. less
