*** Spoiler Free Review ***
As part of the Londonium season, which explores our cities relationship with its Roman heritage, Dark Earth is a solo immersive audio experience in a secret location (although, you may be able to guess where).
As with all events like this, the less you know the better, so this review will be brief and spoiler free.
I like Wiretapper, the company behind this event and have enjoyed their previous outings in audio adventures. At a brisk 40 minutes, this slippery and, sometimes odd tale takes you through the streets of London and into some pleasingly unexpected locations. In fact, the finale location is so impressive, it’s pretty obvious the whole experience has been built around this one location.
That being said, the level of interaction outside of listening to the story and passively watching is minimal, and despite the opening warning that you’ll depart from your friends, you do stay together as a group throughout. The story itself is interesting as it tries to bridge the gap between historical and contemporary, but at times felt a little bit too obtuse.
I’d say it’s worth going for the final location alone (which I very much doubt you’d get access too any other way) and as a brief diversion if you have a spare hour in the city. Dark Earth is running late afternoon to early evenings until October 29th and costs £5.27 a ticket.
