I have the feeling I haven’t bought any books lately, except for the two books I got from the thrift shop in my last book haul. This is a good thing of course, but I gotta feed my addiction from time to time as well. Right? So, when I got dragged to the city centre last week I gave in and bought two books that always catch my eye when visiting the book store! They are just so gorgeous!
The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories by H.P. LovecraftFrequently imitated and widely influential, Howard Phillips Lovecraft reinvented the horror genre in the twentieth century, discarding ghosts and witches and instead envisioning mankind as a tiny outpost of dwindling sanity in a chaotic and malevolent universe. This definitive collection reveals the development of Lovecraft’s mesmerizing narrative style and establishes him as a canonical—and visionary—American writer.

As a literature student I had, obviously, heard about Lovecraft and his stories. But I only got interested in reading his works because of bookstagram’s love for them. Of course I have also heard of his racist views, so that’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind when reading this book.
We have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley JacksonTaking readers deep into a labyrinth of dark neurosis, We Have Always Lived in the Castle is perhaps the crowning achievement of Shirley Jackson’s brilliant career: a deliciously unsettling novel about a perverse, isolated, and possibly murderous family and the dramatic struggle that ensues when an unexpected visitor interrupts their unusual way of life.

This is another author I have heard a lot of, but only got really interested in through bookstagram! The story sounds so very eerie and thrilling. Can’t wait to dive into it!
