Freshly Ground Murder

A Killer Coffee Mystery, Book #3

Synopsis:

The holidays have arrived, and nothing is going to steal the joy of Roxanne Bloom’s first Christmas in Honey Springs.

The town’s annual Christmas in the Park is underway and includes a Christmas Pawrade that’ll help the furry residents at Pet Palace get a home for Christmas. It’s not the four-legged creatures that steal the show, it’s the pair of legs sticking out from the Christmas tree lighting ceremony that has all the town talking.

The suspects are piling up faster than the falling snow, while a murderer is on the loose. Roxy can’t let this ruin her first Christmas in Honey Springs and soon realizes it’s the ghosts of Christmas past that holds the real clues. But can she get this mystery solved in time for the holidays?

Includes Holiday Recipes from The Bean Hive! (Goodreads)
Review:

The author is very talented in creating small towns that are inviting and realistic.  Honey Springs is just such a place.  I would like to visit there, especially at Christmas time, to see all of the lights and decorations and join in on the fun (but I could skip the dead body). Through her descriptions, Honey Springs really came to life for me.

The characters are quirky and engaging.  Roxy is a fun loving, curious and loyal person. When one of the town’s own citizens is found murdered, she feels that she must get involved in helping find the culprit.  She does not want anything to ruin her first Christmas in Honey Springs, and murder could certainly do that.  I enjoyed spending time with all of Roxy’s friends and employees, especially Aunt Maxi.  And all of the animals found within the pages of this book were wonderful.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well plotted cozy mystery.  This whole series is really good and I cannot wait for the next one to be released.

Murder At Midnight

Sand and Sea Hawaiian Mystery, Book #7

Synopsis:

It is the week before Halloween and the gang are gearing up for a big Halloween blow out. When Lani stumbles onto a murder victim whose death seems to be linked to a cold case her father worked on but never solved, the two join forces to bring justice to the victims once and for all.   (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed.  Lani is smart, loving and loyal.  She is also nosy and cannot help but get involved when there is any investigating to do.  She has always wanted to be a cop, having grown up in houseful of them.  But in this book, she begins to consider if that is what she really wants to do, because she will not be able to sleuth freely like she can do now.  I really enjoyed the fact that Lani and her dad work together to solve a mystery that her dad was involved with before.  I enjoyed seeing them bonding and growing even closer as father and daughter.  The family dynamics were put to the test in this book.  Lani is missing Luke a lot since he has been away helping his father, who has been hospitalized.  I think Lani grew even more as a person  because of her relationship with Luke and her father.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.  The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there, watching all of the action taking place and listening in on conversations.  She is also very talented in weaving a cold case and a current case together as tightly as a well knitted scarf.  There are plenty of clues to sift through and enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing throughout the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.  Great characters, a great mystery and plenty of personal drama make this a must read.
