review 1: Scott Snyder does an amazing job creating a different kind of vampire for a different country and era. How would the society and culture of a nation effect the undead? Also, how would the older race of vampires deal with something almost alien to them?A nice change from the standard vampire stories with some interesting characters, both good and bad. Definetly recommended if you are looking for a well written and drawn horror graphic novel.
review 2: Coolest graphic novel I have read this year.No complaints and too many compliments. I will start with the art...WOW! Rafael Albuquerque's illustrations are intense and beautiful.Second, the story...none of the stupid, teenage, "I have fallen in love with a heartthrob bloodsucker" crap. American Vampire is brutal
... moreand darn near perfect.Third, the characters...Skinner Sweet, what an awesome name and appropriate given his addiction to candy even after his urges change for a blood diet. Pearl is such a badass and I can't wait to see what her and Skinner get into in the future.I could go on but I won't. I am too busy picking up the next volume... less
