Fakebusters: Labradorite

Fakebusters!

I know it has been a long time since we have rolled out a good old Fakebusters post, but once again there is just TOO DAMN MANY FAKES!
While this one may be super easy to spot side by side, a new crystal collector may be fooled, so we cannot ignore it. That is right folks, they are even faking good ol’ labradorite now! The carving on the top is real labradorite, with its classic smokey grey colour mixed with ever changing colours in the light. Real labradorite should also display a glittery effect and the iridescence will only be seen from a certain angle and a certain light.
The carving on the bottom is being sold as labradorite, but we can only hazard a guess as to what it is made from. It appears to be some kind of base crystal that is treated/sprayed with the same chemicals that the fake aura quartz is.
So, side by side it seems obvious, however we are also here to help the beginners to find their way without fakery pitfalls
