First Lines, First Thoughts: The Amateurs

First Lines, First Thoughts is a weekly meme where you share the first line of the books you’re reading and your thoughts about it. Alternatively, you can also use the books you’ve read during the week.

I had this meme quite abandoned because my reading was a bit hectic but I think I’m back on track, so I should start doing these again.

The Amateurs by Sara Shepard

Goodreads

The snow fell all night, transforming the world by morning. It was crystal snow, magical snow, creating a perfect, uniform blanket that concealed everything underneath.

Mysterious, isn’t it? The book has a preface, in which the disappearing happens, and then we are set five years after those events, so I was very alert during that initial chapter, so I could pick up any possible clues scattered around. Sadly, I didn’t. I don’t know if they were not included in there, and it was just for us to have some context and know what everybody else knew in the book, or there are mini clues there and I just didn’t see them, which is very possible.

I am pretty good playing guessing games with movies and TV but I haven’t had much chances with books, since I do not read many mysteries. However, I knew this author thanks to Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game, so I decided to give it a try.

Moving on to the first chapter of the book, it’s what sets it all in motion. We see a comment on a message board for an ongoing case regarding the events in the preface:

AKellyReal: I need some answers about my sister. Help …

And then, everything starts…

Have you read this book? Have you read any of the author’s books? What did you think about them?
