review 1: An Uncertain Place is quirky in several ways, so get ready to let go and let the words wash over you. The characters are all over-the-top oddballs, including the main character of Adamsberg. The plots and the reasoning of these "police procedurals" are non-linear and have very little to do with procedure. Adamsberg looks at problems in such outlandish ways that the term "intuition" may need to be redefined.The crimes are horrible but humor fills each story. The experience is a little like spending time with an absent-minded professor.
review 2: Ganz schön gruselig und schockierend auf den ersten Seiten. Das ging schon mal richtig gut los! Das war der blutigste Adamsberg-Krimi bisher. Dann kamen auch noch "Vampire" ins Spiel. Und dann steht Adamsberg plötzlich... more im Mittelpunkt einer Verschwörung, jemand von "ganz oben" möchte ihn aus dem Verkehr räumen und Adamsberg muss um sein Überleben kämpfen. Ich war vollauf begeistert, wie Vargas mal wieder die viele einzelne Handlungsstränge zu einem faszinierenden Ganzen zusammenfügt. Großartig! Fast in einem Rutsch durchgelesen. less
