Folk Devils

By: Barry Kenna

They’re pure evil, ‘them’ over there.

Don’t blame me,

I lash out when I am scared.

Their culture is backwards

Their justice is nil,

I would never do such things as lie, steal or kill.

And if I did, it wouldn’t be my fault.

I’m a victim of my circumstance

Where many men fall.

The devil made me do it,

It was the monster in my head.

A foreign invader implanted by ‘them’.

I’ll externalise my evil

To put my mind at ease

As the wolves inside my head says ‘ ‘them’ is also me.’
