The first time I met him, I instantly loathed him.
The second time was even worse.
He was a jerk. He was an ass.
He had secrets.
He was nothing I thought I ever wanted.
So why couldn’t I resist him?
This book is on the shorter side and honestly there is not much to the plot either. It’s basically showcases how a little lie can spiral out of control and mess up a lot of things. The characters are not o well developed and their personality is not too deep or detailed but the writing style is really great and easy to read. I wanted a quick and easy read and this book was perfect for that. I especially liked the part where the story is told through the emails and text between the two characters.
The characters just annoyed me to no ends. There is Scout who I thought going to be a spunky and funny character but turned out to be not so much. Her lying and then her constant worry about her elaborate little scheme made her a really unsympathetic person to me. She drove herself into a frenzy because of her lies and ‘what ifs’ and let’s be honest there was no way that she could end up with the upper hand after all of this. She made a lot of stupid decisions during the story and also she has a naïve and childish side to boost things up.
Gable is not much better either in regards of the keeping secrets and lying but we only get to know him on the surface. He paints himself as a rotten, scarred soul and uses this as an excuse for his whorish ways. He and Scout went through a lot of similar experiences in life but Gable somehow makes a bigger deal out of things. He is a bit of a drama queen.
I just didn’t like this whole package and it’s a shame really because I love the style of the author.
