My piece for the Houston Rodeo Western Art Show was submitted back in November and I wasn’t sure about whether or not I should’ve posted anything about it back then, other than to post some of the work in progress photos on Instagram. It didn’t advance into being moved into the NRG Stadium for further judgment, which is a slight bum, but I was just happy to see it make a first place ribbon. It was a challenge for me to even illustrate, which I chose it to be, and it was successful. That’s all that matters to me.
Since it’s above print size, I wasn’t going to be able to scan it, so I took a good picture of the illustration and waited until it felt right. I used Acryla Gouache for base layers and then some different brands, like Cretacolor’s Aqua Briques and Savoir-Faire’s gouache for coloring and detailing, while inking the outlines.
