WHAT A MONTH!

I have had the most stressful and busy month of my whole university life. This month I handed in a dissertation as part of my final year requirements. For those of you that don’t know, I go to the best business school in the UK and for some reason that means I have to do a ludicrous dissertation. I wrote a 20,000+ dissertation (which is just a big essay) on accounting and that was average. I know some people that were up at the 30,000 word count and some that have even hit 40,000.

The difference to most subjects is that we have to come up with our own research topic rather than some other disciplines that pick from a set list. I think the frustrating thing is that when you compare it to other universities in the UK they don’t need to do it, it’s an elective. Also if they do a dissertation they have much less coursework and also less exams, but no, not my uni. I get that’s probably why the department has been so highly regarded for so many years but when we joined I don’t think we knew how prestigious it really was.

So many of us were just falling apart at the seems but I am so grateful for it all to be over!

So this month was not a good month to do big books but you know what I’m going to class it as a success, so finally getting to the books.

Starflight by Melissa Lander (Starflight #1) – 369 pages

So I read this as part of a buddy read and I enjoyed it. I really have a thing for sifi even though I never really pick it up I always really like to keep an eye out and enjoy it when I do.

Review The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) – 830 pages

I read this as part of my book club because we have had this book on our TBR’s for SO LONG! And we all loved this, I heard so many good things around it and it really was such a good book with an interesting premise. I really enjoyed the way it was told and I am looking forward to reading the sequels, just maybe not next month haha.

The Search for WondLa by Tony Diterlizzi (The Search for WondLa #1) – 484 pages

This was such a needed read, I loved loved loved this. It was just such a different style of book and I really enjoyed the world and the adventure and the creature and the illustrations.

Review Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson – 175 pages

So I liked the premise behind this but just not the way it was done. For me it was just to metaphorical and pretentious for discussing the topic at hand. Although I don’t like Adam Silvera’s book, he did a much better job at conveying the story in a more relatable manner.

Nothing is Strange by Mike Russell – 146 pages

I received this in return for a review. This is a super strange book, I enjoyed it but some of it went really over my head.

Review Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (Outlander #1) – 896 pages

I finally did it and I loved this book. My review of this is much bigger than average so look out for it when it comes up. I just felt so at home with this book and that’s why I was so worried about reading it in the first place. I really loved Murtagh, I just keep thinking about him, and I don’t think that’s a popular opinion or a common one but I don’t care!

Traitor of the Tower by Alison Weir

So I’m not much if a history buff but I do really enjoying about monarchs and came across Alison Weir. I picked this up and loved her writing style. I have immediately ordered a couple more of her books and they’re really big but they’re sitting on my shelf and I’m really looking forward to them.

This contains a small origin story of Lady Jane Grey, the inspiration behind the book Lady Jane, and it’s incredibly tragic.

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

So I picked this up as a bridge book. I just needed something easy and simple. I was hoping that this was a simple romance and then suddenly BAMB, it just got a whole lot of twisted and serious. This also happened with Slammed but not nearly to the same extent.

I also read a whole bunch of comics along with this

Also I am taking a hiatus from TBR’s for a while. I’m just going to read what I’m going to read. I’ve set up like a paper copy of my TBR and using that and my library to decide what I’m reading so I don’t really know what I’m reading.
