Monitoring Agreements

How’s your quest going– to Live Full Out with God?  Are you experiencing more and more of His Kingdom? Have you been receiving Aha’s and “Kisses” of unmistakable gifts just for you?  Are the battles growing more frequent or more intense?  While the New Year is still just beginning, I have become CONVINCED that one of the most important things we need to add to our daily practice ( no matter what method you use to connect with Jesus, and no matter your Word/theme for the year) is to monitor our agreements!

Here’s the thing… Do you know how you can hear 10 genuine compliments and 1 criticism, and instead of feeling buoyed by the praise you become upset over the single negative comment? It doesn’t take much for the enemy to make us feel unworthy, unattractive, and unsuccessful.  Words have power.  Remember,  we were created in God’s image and He SPOKE the world into being.  What words are you speaking over your life?

I grew up with a mother who used to say that she’d be gone by the time she was 60.  Whenever I called her on it, she’d say she was joking, but I think in a way it became her escape valve. She was a single mom with lots of stress who had watched her mother, sister, and brother pass away, all within their early 60’s.  Never mind that they had all been smokers who died of cancer.  Never mind that my mother had never smoked and was perfectly healthy.  Then, at 62 years young, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.  Slowly at first and then rapidly by the end, my mother disappeared with the ravages of the disease.  She died 6 years later.

Yet even with this very personal example it is amazing how quickly and how subtly I too can start making toxic agreements. I have shared here before how I am someone who deals with “chronic pain”. Really, Cara?  NO LONGER– I have weaknesses and I get tired from the effects of a long ago car accident, but I do NOT have to agree with pain!!! Over the years I have also “confessed” to all sorts of things in a kind of self-deprecating humor, but at what cost?

WE ARE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE KING!!  Isn’t it time we walked and talked from that reality?

A few agreements we SHOULD be making every day:

I am a new creation in Christ. The old is gone; the new has come.

I am chosen, accepted, forgiven, redeemed, adopted into God’s family, and LOVED.

The joy of the Lord is my strength and by His stripes I am healed.

God has made me for a purpose and equipped me with everything I need to accomplish it.

Friends, take the time to put on your armor every day with the Holy Spirit, and keep on fighting to demolish the fiery darts of fear and doubt thrown at you by the enemy.  When you make agreements about your life, your faith, your God, make sure you are agreeing with TRUTH.

With love–
