review 1: This feels like a middle book in a trilogy (which it is), but without annoying me as such things usually do. The book is transitional, but the characters' lives are also in transition, so it ends up feeling entirely appropriate to the circumstances. And, though the conflicts in this book are less epic, that doesn't make them less important: the characters are focused (at least temporarily) not on the immediate demands of war but on questions of their self-identity, their place in society, and the norse culture's relationship with the outside world.
review 2: A pretty good read, but not as compelling as the first book. The point of view changes from Isolfr to that of Vethulf and Skjaldwulf, which I was looking forward to, but I was a little disappointed in the e
... morexternal view of Isolfr.Plotwise (the sex is a minor element in this one) the wolf pack is worried that they’ll become obsolete since there are no more trolls to fight (another parallel with Dragonriders of Pern). Luckily a new enemy appears in the form of a pseudo-Roman invasion force. The ending paves the way for a third book, which seems to be a bit slow in coming.I continue to enjoy the human-wolf interaction, and there's plenty of humor. For instance, when Skjaldwulf assures a nervous farmer that the wolves won’t eat his goats if they're asked not to, his wolf grumpily communicates a series of images, essentially complaining about the long list of things he's been asked not to eat. less

The first book was better, in my opinion. This one dragged, and I could not convince myself to care.

Great sequel to A Companion to Wolves. I hope there is a third book in the works.
Rescue
A sequel, the purpose of which is to sell the third book in the series.

I wanted another book from Isolfr's POV :( Now I'm sad.
