review 1: A trite novel of two women fighting to gain custody of their children, one the birth mother who left the children when they were babies three years ago and the other the step mother who has been bringing them up as her own since the sudden death of her husband the children's dad. The only thing that saves this novel is the lush descriptions of the small town and redwood forests in northern California where the story takes place, making me long to live a small town country existence.
review 2: There just seemed to be something lacking in this book, but I cannot put my finger on exactly what. It had the potential to be great, but came up short. I kind of felt like the story started out SO slowly (even though major events happened in the first couple chapters) and
... more once everything really started rolling, it ended. I also feel like there were too many moving pieces....too much breadth and not enough depth. less
